Ms. Chan Kanha, the Best Female in MasterChef Khmer (Season 1) started from humble beginnings as just a simple home cook, but with a passion!

When the opportunity came up to audition to become a contestant in MasterChef Khmer, she was quite reserved as she thought that her capabilities were not good enough to compete in a sector with the many people that have a lot more experience including chefs from hotels. In fact during the early stage of MasterChef Khmer, she was very surprised to be selected initially among the Top 25 with a MasterChef apron.

Without formal education in the culinary field or training from any cooking school, she fought hard to learn all the necessary culinary skills during MasterChef Khmer with short stints and training from various Chefs during the show and also training with reputable culinary academies.

She did overcome her fears as the show went on with very positive comments from the judges and especially the celebrity chefs in attendance. Her fast and strong desire to learn resulted in her being among the Top 5, earning the acclaimed MasterChef uniform with her name.

One of her notable achievements during MasterChef Khmer competition was that she became ‘Team Captain’ 3 times and during these 3 times, her team came up victorious, a significant achievement in the MasterChef worldwide franchise.

During her interviews after every episode, she was also very polite and courteous that resulted her being noted as the Most Popular Contestant on MasterChef Khmer Facebook page that serves as an inspiration to empower women in society.

After MasterChef Khmer she joined the CAMFOOD competition, where top chefs in Cambodia compete and she won a medal award in the seafood category. Surprisingly, she was the only female among all contestant chefs to win in this category that has never worked as a professional chef in a restaurant or hotel before.

Subsequently, Ms. Kanha became a member of the Cambodia Chefs Society and the Cambodia Chefs Association and through her network became more popular with local and international chefs.

Because of her popularity, passion and creativity in food, she is also brand representative and ambassador for many local and international brands (Knorr, Panasonic, Mee Chiet, etc…) plus also appearing on TV commercials. In addition to this she was also called to be an international celebrity judge for the Miss Tourism Metropolitan International World Pageant, among others.

Among her new accomplishments this year is a cooking video compilation called “Stay at Home” during the Covid pandemic in Cambodia, showing families staying at home how to cook simple delicious meals on her Facebook and fan page.

At the same time, her new YouTube channel called ‘Kanha’s Kitchen’ is up, showcasing more new delicious recipes and creations for everyone to enjoy including promotion of healthy products for Cambodian families.

Today, MasterChef Chan Kanha hopes to encourage the younger generation especially women to become more successful in life, dare to different and aim high in their careers.
